Geoffrey Peterson is a lyric baritone from Trumansburg, New York. Currently, Mr. Peterson is an emerging artist in his second season at Opera Orlando, where he will cover and perform the roles of “Papageno” (Die Zauberflöte [cover]), Amantio (Gianni Schicchi), “Slook” (La Cambiale di Matrimonio), “Hortensius” (La Fille du Regiment), and more! Other young artist programs include Opera Theater of St. Louis (Gerdine Young Artist), and the Taos Opera Institute. A lover of new music, he has been fortunate to create and workshop the roles of the “Pastor”/“Promotor”/“Walter White” in Houston Grand Opera’s world premier of Marian’s Song, “Augustus” in Opera Orlando’s world premiere of The Secret River, “He” in He Who Gets Slapped, by composer Alexander Burtzos, and “The Scholar” in the west coast premier of “I CAN’T BREATHE” at Pacific Opera Project. 

Mr. Peterson has also been active has a teaching artist with Houston Grand Opera’s HGOco program, leading empathy training workshops at the Harris county juvenile detention center & performing “Story book Opera’s”. He has also been a featured performer with their acclaimed Opera to Go program. Credits include “Pavo Picasso” (Strega Nona), “Dulcamara" (The Elixir of Love), and “Isabella”/“The King” (Cinderella in Spain).

An advocate for social justice through music, he has also been a soloist and ensemble member with the Houston Ebony Opera Guild, The Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers, and the Vitamin L Chorus. In February of 2021, Peterson returned home to Trumansburg, NY, to present a recital titled Songs of Separation. Named after the song cycle by composer William Grant Still, it was designed to highlight the works and achievements of some of the greatest African American Composers past and present. He is a founding board member and artistic advisor for I Colori del Opera, in Houston, TX.
